Welcome back to Listen Up! God Speaks—a podcast to help you live life victoriously. I’m your host, Charlotte, and we’re now in Episode 8 of our series titled Victory Through the Battle: Spiritual Warfare Lessons from the Bible.
If you’ve ever felt trapped, surrounded, or stuck in a situation where there seemed to be no way out, this episode is for you. Because sometimes, spiritual warfare doesn’t look like marching or shouting or wielding a sword—it looks like standing still and trusting God to do what only He can.
Let’s dive into one of the most iconic battles in Scripture: the crossing of the Red Sea.
Picture this...
The Israelites have just left Egypt. After generations of slavery, they’re finally free—but their freedom is quickly threatened. Pharaoh changes his mind and sends his army to pursue them.
The Israelites come to a dead end: the Red Sea in front of them, Pharaoh’s army behind them, and fear rising all around them.
And then Moses says something powerful:
“Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today… The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” —Exodus 14:13–14 (ESV)
Let’s sit with that for a moment...
Here's the first warfare insight:
Some battles are not yours to fight—they are God’s.
The enemy wants you to panic, react, retreat.
But God says, “Stand still.” Why?
Because stillness is not passivity—it’s trust.
Standing still doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means refusing to act in fear.
It means holding your ground spiritually, emotionally, and mentally—until God shows up with a strategy.
Let’s explore a key Hebrew word...
The word for “salvation” in verse 13 is yeshuah (יְשׁוּעָה)—which means rescue, deliverance, victory.
It’s where we get the name Yeshua—Jesus.
So when Moses said, “Stand and see the salvation of the Lord,” he was literally saying, “Stand still and see Jesus move on your behalf.”
That’s not just Old Testament. That’s eternal truth.
Let me ask you something:
What do you do when you’re trapped between a Pharaoh and a sea?
The diagnosis doesn’t look good
The finances aren’t enough
The betrayal cuts deep
The pressure is mounting
That’s when your faith is tested.
That’s when the enemy whispers, “You’re stuck. There’s no way out.”
But here’s the truth:
When the way out is blocked, God often makes a way through.
Let’s look at what happens next...
“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.’” —Exodus 14:15
That may seem contradictory. One verse says stand still; the next says move forward.
Here’s the balance:
You stand in faith—and you move in obedience.
You don’t move in fear.
You move when God gives the command. And sometimes that command is to walk straight into the impossible.
Let me give you a real-life example...
A woman facing a legal battle was told by God to say nothing in her defense and to stop trying to prove her innocence.
She obeyed—against every natural instinct.
And the truth was exposed supernaturally, without her lifting a finger.
She stood still—and God fought for her.
That’s what this Red Sea moment teaches us.
Here are three practical strategies for Red Sea warfare:
#1 Resist the Temptation to Retreat
When Pharaoh’s army approached, the Israelites panicked and said, “We should’ve stayed in Egypt!”
That’s how fear talks—it glorifies bondage and it also lures you back into what you’re familiar with or more comfortable with, even if it is some type of bondage or place of sin.
Don’t let panic push you backward. When you're under pressure, remind yourself of the promise. You didn’t come this far to drown—you came to walk through.
#2 Stand Still in the Spirit, Even If You’re Moving Forward Physically
Standing still doesn’t mean inactivity—it means spiritual steadiness.
Your feet may be moving—but your spirit is anchored.
Declare:
“I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:6)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1)
Let your heart be still, even if your steps are unsure.
#3 Let God Part the Sea—Don’t Try to Swim It Alone
God didn’t tell them to swim across.
He made a path through the impossible.
Sometimes we exhaust ourselves trying to “fix” everything. But real warfare begins when we say:
“God, I trust You to do what I cannot.”
Let Him part the sea in your life. And then walk through it on dry ground.
Let’s speak a declaration together:
“I will not fear. I will not retreat. I will stand still and trust in the salvation of my God. He makes a way where there is no way. I will walk through every Red Sea, and the enemy will not overtake me. I am covered, protected, and led by the Lord of Hosts.”
Let’s pray...
Father, thank You for being our Defender and Deliverer.
When we feel surrounded, remind us that You are fighting for us.
Teach us to stand still when fear says run.
Teach us to move when You say go.
Part every Red Sea in our life. Lead us forward with power and peace.
Let every pursuing enemy be defeated by Your hand.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
