Welcome back to Listen Up! God Speaks—a podcast to help you live life victoriously. I’m your host, Charlotte, and we are now at Episode 10 of our series Victory Through the Battle: Spiritual Warfare Lessons from the Bible.
Today we’re talking about a battle that doesn’t start with a sword or a shout—but with a sentence. It’s the battle for your perspective, your confession, and your agreement. Because in spiritual warfare, what you say shapes what you see.
Let’s dive into the story of the twelve spies in Numbers 13.
This episode is called, “Whose Report Will You Believe? Victory Starts with Your Voice
Let me set the stage…
God had already promised the land of Canaan to the Israelites. It was their inheritance. Their destiny.
So when the spies were sent out, they weren’t sent to decide if the land was theirs—they were sent to see how to take possession of it.
But what was supposed to be a faith-filled scouting trip turned into a fear-filled breakdown.
Ten spies returned with this report:
“The land is good… but the people are giants. We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” —Numbers 13:33
Only two who went with them—Joshua and Caleb—stood in faith and said:
“Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” —Numbers 13:30
Same land.
Same giants.
Different report.
That’s the power of perspective in warfare.
Here’s the first truth we need to embrace:
Spiritual warfare often starts with your words—long before you lift your hands.
The ten spies weren’t defeated by swords or arrows.
They were defeated by agreement with fear.
And they brought the entire nation down with them.
Let’s go deeper into the language...
The Bible calls their report in Numbers 13:32 an “evil report.”
The Hebrew word for “evil” here is dibbah (דִּבָּה), which means defamation, slander, or a whispering campaign.
This wasn’t just a negative opinion—it was a slander against what God had said.
It questioned His promise.
It magnified the problem and minimized His power.
That’s why God took it so seriously.
Let me ask you:
💭What report are you speaking over your life?
💭 Over your family?
💭 Over your calling?
Is it aligned with what you see—or what God says?
Let me give you a real-life example...
A man receives a diagnosis and immediately begins confessing, “I’m going to die. I’ll never recover. This runs in my family.”
But another man receives the same diagnosis and declares, “God is my healer. I will not fear. I will walk through this valley with faith and see His goodness.”
Same facts.
Same circumstances.
Different outcome—because of different confession.
That’s spiritual warfare.
Let’s talk about the consequences in Numbers 14...
The people listened to the evil report, panicked, and said:
“Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt”
“Let us select a leader and return to Egypt!”
And in that moment, they disqualified themselves from entering the land.
They literally spoke themselves out of their destiny.
Only Joshua and Caleb would live to see the promise fulfilled.
Here are three spiritual warfare strategies we can apply from this story:
1. Guard What You Speak in the Middle of the Battle
It’s easy to talk faith when everything is calm.
But your true spiritual posture shows up when the giants appear.
Speak what God says—especially when it looks impossible.
Declare:
“I walk by faith, not by sight.”
“If God is for me, who can be against me?"
“He who promised is faithful.”
2. Don’t Let Majority Voices Override God’s Voice
Ten spies said “no.”
Only two said “yes.”
And the crowd followed the ten.
Be careful whose voice you agree with.
God is not obligated to fulfill the opinions of people. He responds to faith.
Don’t let the volume of fear drown out the voice of truth.
3. Your Identity Determines Your Perspective
The ten spies said, ‘We are grasshoppers.’ Because they saw themselves as small and weak, their distorted view made the enemy seem bigger and more powerful than they really were. In other words, their insecurity shaped how they viewed the enemy.
But Joshua and Caleb saw themselves through covenant eyes.
They knew they were backed by God.
If you believe you’re weak, unqualified, or stuck… you’ll never step forward.
That’s why your identity in Christ is the foundation of spiritual victory.
Let’s speak a declaration together:
“I believe the report of the Lord. I reject every lie, every exaggeration of fear, and every slander against God’s promises. I am not a grasshopper—I am a covenant child. I will speak faith, stand firm, and take possession of every promise God has given me.”
Let’s pray...
Father, thank You that Your Word is truth.
Forgive me for the times I’ve agreed with fear, doubt, or unbelief.
Teach me to guard my confession, even when the situation looks impossible.
Let me speak life, not death.
Let me align my words with Your Word.
And give me the spirit of Caleb—bold, unwavering, and full of faith.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
